I use this unit to teach beginners how to clog. The ability to easily slow down or speed up the music instantly comes in very handy for my purposes. Bought a used unit on Ebay that had trouble reading the CD-Rs I had made. This unit is faster and more reliable than the Gemini CDJ-02 and I got it for a good price on Amazon.

DJ Coffin for 2 X Pioneer / Denon / Technics CD Players Plus 12" Mixer with Wheels Review

DJ Coffin for 2 X Pioneer / Denon / Technics CD Players Plus 12 Mixer with Wheels
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This case is absolutely exceptional in every way, except for one major problem... the mixer will not sit flush if you need to use XLR or 1/4" plugs, for there is simply not enough room between the rear of the mixer and the rear of the case. Had they made the case one inch wider, this would be a flawless product. As it stands now, I had to cut, with a utility knife, a few areas of the case's rear foam just so I could create enough room to facilitate my XLR plugs. How could they not think of this ahead of time? I am satisfied overall, simply because every other ambit of this product is flawless, but I wonder with amazement how RR didn't approach this problem.

Digital Blue Mixman DM2 Music Mixer Review

Digital Blue Mixman DM2 Music Mixer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought my DM2 for the soul purpose of scratching. I thought it would be great to scratch any sound. You wouldn't have to go buy custom records because you could make your own samples and scratch those. I learned you can't do this with the packaged software because it uses its own file format and converting to TRK is annoying and sample length is limited. I found something alot better, its called Traktor and you CAN set up the DM2 to work with it.
Look online and find an application called DM2Midi and download the profiles so you can make the DM2 function as a Midi control device. Traktor can play and manipulate full length wav and mp3 files without any need to convert. This is a better setup than the MixMan software but its still not going to function like a real turntable. If you want that go for Final Scratch or Ms. Pinky. Its steep but it will be the most authentic experience.
DM2 with Traktor is a useful combo if you can get it set up (there are tutorials on sites and in forums) but there are limitations because of how the DM2 is made.
The DM2's "scratch rings" don't work the same way as actual vinyl and they probably never will. Real vinyl is always in motion and it's also pressure sensitive (you can slow it just by gliding your finger over it or you can stop it completely) the DM2 lacks that kind of control and with current Traktor profiles you have to hold down a button to scratch. You also can't utilize the crossfader when you're using one hand to hold a "scratch button" and the other to move the "scratch wheel."
I've tried using profiles for Traktor that don't need a button so you scratch with the wheel itself but this is still difficult. The rubber scratch wheel's can't sense pressure so you can't just put your finger on the wheel and stop/slow the "record." The DM2 doesn't know your finger is there until you edge the wheel back or forth and once you stop moving it, it goes back to playing even if your finger is still there.
Perhaps if the surface of the wheels had some kind of heat/pressure sensitve strip like the volume adjuster on an Ipod it would work a little better. The people who make DM2 need to consider its possible application with OTHER software, not just its own.

Gemini CDJ-203 Tabletop Single CD Player Review

Gemini CDJ-203 Tabletop Single CD Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a professional club dj and purchased these cdjs to play at friends houses, where I would not have to be so concerned with the expensive damage involved in using my other CDJs (Pioneer CDJ 1000MK2). Nothing worse then someone spilling beer all over your expensive gear by accident.
These are not high quality cdjs. If you have ever played on Denons, pr Pioneers, they do not compair. There is a lag when adjusting your tempo and fine tuning your mix by using the platter. There is also a lag with the pitch adjustment alone. Maybe .03 second lag. It gets really annoying and makes fast mixing difficult. Once you get use to it however, its smooth sailing. I was very frustrated until I got use to the lag and found ways to make it work with that lag.
The cd insert slot is not a straight feed cd slot. This is the old fashioned plate that comes out and you place your cd on the plate, and then push it into the cdj. So it is not a fast insert. It also takes about 5 seconds to actually load the cd, and that is with 1 or 2 tracks on the cd. So it is very time consuming.
I have had no problem with the sound, The sound quality is great, assuming your music is at 320kpbs or greater. The display is good, you can adjust how your view your track time. From how many minutes/second left in the track or how far into the track you are. Tracks can be selected easily with the track selection knob.
You can set your own cue to begin anywhere in track. That is a plus.
THIS IS NOT A SCRATCH CDJ. YOU CANNOT SCRATCH WHAT SO EVER ON THIS CDJ. Also this is not Serato responsive because of that option. You can use Serato with it, but it will not give the full Serato options because it is not a scratch cdj. I do not know if you can use Virtual DJ, I have been asked but do not know.
In all, this is an ok set up for a new dj, or a budget dj, or for travel like I used it for. I kept mine in a smoke and child free home, so it stayed in good working order until I sold it. Hope this review helps you.

Numark iDec A/V Playback and Recording Rack Interface for iPod Review

Numark iDec A/V Playback and Recording Rack Interface for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm writing this review as I can't find but one review on the IDEC anywhere on the web. We have several racks which we use for commercial audio applications and home use. I've used Ipods almost exclusively for location playback music but found that connecting it to a mixer to be a pain. We own several types of Ipods, and they've all been great, but we usually use a Nano as it allows a playlist to crossfade. (I haven't noticed that the others have that capability). If we run the system in Mono it means coming out of the Nano with a cable going to a splitter and then combining the signals into one input to go into the board. If in stereo it's just coming out of the Nano to a splitter and going into the board. If you run the system for hours at a time charging a Nano can be a challenge as the audio connector is too close to the charging connector (without using a Monster adapter, etc.) or hauling in a dock of some sort. Also the Nano's display while not illuminated is hard to see in some environments, so if you run the background display constantly you run the battery down quicker. To try and remedy all this, I purchased a Numark "Fit for Sound". In doing so I have a clean way of connecting the Nano, charging it, keeping it illuminated and operating the controls. Numark's Fit for Sound is the predecessor of the IDEC (?) but it is playback only and has both RCA and XLR connectors, and was supposedly designed for use in gyms and fitness centers (and has an infrared remote). Anyway, I purchased one and installed it into one of my racks. Voila (!) I had the perfect solution for having the Ipod in a stable rack-mounted device which charges, provides audio and the controls perform exactly as the controls are on the Ipod. (No more fumbling with an Ipod in a dock and worrying about getting the unit out of the dock or possibly damaging the connector, etc. all while running sound at a location.) I liked it so much I put it in my rack at home (so again I'm without a solution for a location rack...so I needed another one). The IDEC will probably provide the same performance as the Fit for Sound as it looks identical with the exception of possibly no infrared remote, and not having the XLR and will only have RCA connectors (no biggie). The recording aspect is also a benefit, but be aware that not all Ipods will do voice recording, and I've found by using external microphones on Ipods and through the use of recording interfaces by other companies the Ipods (which have moving hard drives, such as the full size Ipods we own) create a slight background noise for 10 seconds or so every few minutes as (I think) this is when the audio data is being written to the drive. I believe this is something internal to the Ipod and not associated with a recording interface, but I've not recorded with the IDEC so I don't know the exact cause or remedy. I don't think most folks notice this as the noise is like a slight whine and I notice it as I'm using some higher-end headphones and listen for any issues. No one else has brought this to my attention and it's not readily noticed unless you're doing something where there is a lapse in the audio, such as between words being spoken (if recording a sermon) or between songs where you use an Ipod as a recording device. I don't know this is the case with all Ipods or with Nanos (which reportedly don't have moving hard drives) or will be associated with the IDEC, but my guess is this has more to do with the Ipod than the recording interface. I found the price on Amazon for the IDEC with shipping is the lowest I've found on the web, and I'm looking forward to using it both as a playback and recording device. The Fit for Sound device (is identical except for being white in color) is basically bulletproof, solid, reliable and well built. The IDEC should be just as good and probably before all is said and done I'll have one in each of my racks. You can think of it as a super-dooper, bulletproof Ipod dock which mounts on a rack and provides a safe, reliable, and clean way to run an Ipod with the added benefit of being able to record and that probably sums up what the IDEC is all about. It's the answer to what many of us have really needed and wished someone came up with a long time ago. I hope this review helps.

The C.304 is Stanton's first tabletop CD player with vinyl-like control.

Using a newly developed touch-sensitive jogwheel, DJs can perform realistic scratching, backspins and beat juggling effects with true vinyl response and feel.

And unlike many other CD players on the market, the C.304 includes eight high-quality DSP effects that can be automatically synchronized to BPM.

Add effects like Filter, Delay and Flange right from the CD player while choosing from several note values for synchronization.

The C.304 also features Key Lock, seamless looping and hot cues, plus the ability to sequence up to four user samples.

The C.304's large LCD display and DJ-friendly design make it very easy to use, while Stanton's rock-solid engineering ensures maximum reliability.

Numark CDX MP3-CD Turntable Review

Numark CDX MP3-CD Turntable
Average Reviews:

Ive had these for a while now. They are excelent quality better then the Denon's Dns-5000. The sound quality is clear, the interface is easy to get used to, and the effects are great. It plays both regular cd's, burned cd's and Mp3 cd's. The platter is extremely smooth and accurate so mixing is easy and has 4 diffrent scratch modes. The BPM counter respons right when you put the track and it has the capability to automatically interlock beats between one cdx and another for those who are just starting out. The search wheel is used for both effects(wet\dry) and super fast search.
Pros:
-Great sound
-Easy To Use
-Easy to get used to
-Very well built
-Everything is on cue
Cons:
-A little heavy

A unique solution for DJs who love the feel of vinyl but want to use their CDs for mixing and scratching, the Numark CDX CD turntable literally combines the best of both worlds. Unlike other CD turntables, which merely mimic the construction of traditional record players, the CDX uses a genuine 12-inch record as the controlling interface. In other words, the CDX not only looks like a turntable, but it actually feels like one as well. The CD responds to each movement of the 12-inch record whether you're scratching, battling, or looping, resulting in a DJ experience that harnesses modern digital formats while feeling as smooth and tangible as classic vinyl.
The CDX employs the same ultra-high-torque direct-drive motor as Numark's flagship TTX turntable, with adjustable start and stop times. It's also the same height as traditional turntables, and its dual start/stop buttons reside on either side of the platter, making it easy to position the turntable for "standard" or "battle" use. Among the CDX's shared CD/turntable features are impressive +/- 6, 12, 25, and 100 percent pitch control ranges; a key lock function that keeps vocals and music in the proper key even when the tempo increases dramatically; a built-in beatkeeper that delivers accurate and instant beat-per-minute readouts; and a DSP processor that lets DJs employ such effects as echo, slide, sonar, bleep, and filter--all controlled by a dedicated wheel. DJs can also activate the stutter function to instantly jump around within the track, or they can use the 3,000 cue points when loading a new CD to immediately access specific passages. And thanks to the quick-loading CD slot, DJs can swap out discs in no time at all.
Though Numark supplies a 12-inch LP for the slipmat, any record will do (it's the wheel that controls the CD, not the record). DJs can also synchronize the CDX with drum machines and other MIDI devices due to the MIDI I/O. Additional features include a S/PDIF digital output, a bright VFD display that shows beats per minute, time, and unit status, and anti-shock buffer technology. The CDX measures 17.75 by 3.62 by 14.5 inches (W x H x D) and is covered by a two-year warranty.
What's in the Box CDX CD turntable, slipmat, 12-inch record, user's manual.

USB Integration & MP3 PlaybackThe CDJ-400's cosmetic design is simple and compact yet elegant with all of its various controls and features located directly on top of the unit. A USB port found on the face of the player allows DJs to play their MP3 music collection from a wide variety of portable music devices such as thumb drives, MP3 players or external hard drives. With the use of a multi-function selector knob/button and its large, bright, dot-matrix LCD display, locating and accessing of files from these types of music devices as well as MP3 music files on CD and CD-R/RW through the CD slot are done with a turn and press of the knob. DJ Software Compatibility and MIDI Control With more of today's DJs utilizing different DJ software for their performances, the CDJ-400 is also equipped with a PC mode. In this mode, the CDJ-400 is a native controller for software such as Pioneer DJS computer software and Serato Scratch Live. For example, the movement of the pitch slider on the CDJ-400 can control the pitch slider on the computer software and no time code CD is required for audio control. The player can also act as a MIDI controller were you can assign virtually every button on the player to trigger functions of various DJ software programs. World's First Scratch Jog EffectA highlight and an advancement of the CDJ-400 is its scratching capability. In addition to traditional vinyl" mode scratching, Pioneer implemented the World's First Scratch Jog Effect. Three highlighted buttons, each assigned to a special effect, Bubble, Trans and Wah, creates unique scratching sound effects that can be enabled by the DJ on the fly. A hold" button was also added to retain the different effects throughout the session or until its release, which can also be triggered at any point of play. Tempo Control - Four tempo modes, +-6%, +-10%, +-16% and wide, provide additional speed

I am only writing this review in response to the previous review. As a DJ instructor at Ridiculous DJ academy and an experienced mobile DJ and scratch/ hip-hop/ performance DJ, I find this mixer adequate and totally up to all of my expectations for a intro level DJ mixer. I currently use a pioneer DJM-909 as my primary mixer and I have an M3 as a backup mixer. In works fine for scratching, the fader is adequate, has curve adjust switch and is relatively loose. Kills switches are nice and feel good even if they don't kill as much as you would like. Transform switches are useless and poorly placed (i occasionally bump them with my wrist), but that is my only negative. I cannot speak to the longevity of these mixers because I haven't had mine very long. I have a couple of students who have used them without complaint.
I haven't found a better mixer that you can buy NEW for $100. This is definitely better than Stanton sub $100 models and WAY WAY better than anything by Behringer.
If anybody knows a mixer in this price range that is better, please post! I would like to know about it.
THIS IS A CHEAP MIXER and is not built to last. If you are serious about DJing you should buy something that will last you longer, like Vestax PMC series, pioneer, or Numark DXM series.
Rock on.
