(More customer reviews)First of all, I want to point out that the Grado Prestige Green is an excellent cartridge for its sound reproduction. Trombones are not piercing, bells are soft and the bass tone reproduction is amazing. Grado's are very well designed and deliver a great value for the money.
But... (and this is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars) you need to be sure that your turntable is well matched for this or any Grado. I have a direct drive turntable with an unshielded motor, and the Grado picks up a low amplitude hum as the stylus moves closer to the spindle. This is because Grado does not shield their cartridges. I don't know why, because everything else is great about this cartridge.
If you have a belt drive turntable with a motor far away from the cartridge or your motor is shielded, you shouldn't have any problems. This will be your best investment.
Now I don't want to exaggerate the hum, because you do have to turn up the volume pretty high to hear it. I have been using it for digital restoration of vinyl and the hum comes through the preamp and sound card. I can filter it out with software without damaging the audio (noticeably). I considered a different cartridge but I love the sound of this one too much.

Audio Technica AT3600 Standard Mount Magnetic Cartridge Review

(More customer reviews)Have had an old Sony stereo system since 1987 and the needle has (had) been broken since 1995 or so. Recently replaced the needle (just unscrew the top black piece, pull off the yellow piece, and detach the clear plastic cover carefully--slides under and locks into position the tonearm, but will take some patience) and it works great. The single yellow piece will cost much less and would have bought on eBay but don't currently have an account with them, so all thanks to Amazon. Fortunately, this particular stylus is easy to find compared to some other/older styli. Have purchased some rare vinyl records on top of that as enjoyment. I digitize the records to iPod with MicroMemo accessory and sounds great on a computer. Just use an audio editor and burn to CD if you want. (Just a suggestion--what I do.) Generally, if the album is available on tape or CD as well and you don't have a turntable with a working needle, a vinyl record wouldn't be appropriate. Some might choose vinyl for its so-called warm audio tones and cover art that differ from other formats. Probably little demand for this nowadays but you never know when obsolete technology has a minor advantage over the newer stuff. Vinyl records are still in production, but cassette tape is becoming harder to find now, even online! Blank CDs and DVDs don't have the archival life of tapes and vinyls because they scratch too easily. Vinyl is very sturdy but certainly not compact, and you can't record your own records as you can tape and CD/DVD. Having said that, more than likely you would buy vinyl than tape, but it's a matter of need and interest. I would recommend this Audio Technica product if you have the equipment for it.

These are AT3600 standard mount (two hole with 1/2" spacing) moving magnet cartridges that will replace virtually any brand cartridge in any turntable which uses a removeable headshell and many that don't; if you see two screws holding your current magnetic cartridge in place, this Audio Technica will replace it. Don't waste time searching for a replacement stylus for your current cartridge when you can simply replace the whole thing for the same or less money!!!

Wore out the turntable's stock stylus, then went through two Audio Technica ones (the ATP-2XN ones), then a Stanton, then this. I think this Ortofon is the best I've had yet. Tracks even better than the Stanton, and clarity is just a shade better than the Audio Technicas.
What I really, really, REALLY like though, is you don't have to spend all that time turning tiny screws in the headshell. There is no headshell. This thing turned a fifteen minute tedious replacement into about twelve seconds.
And no, I'm not an Ortofon employee paid to write a good review. :P I just thought I'd drop a word in for them. If I find a different cartridge that does better, I'll edit this to recommend the better one.

Numark Groove Tool Cartridge & Stylus Review

(More customer reviews)This cartridge came in a Numark TTUSB Turntable I recently bought when the prices came down on this item. As many of my 45 RPM Records I bought back in the 50's and 60's do exhibit a lot of playing wear ( especially on the Big Hit favorites ) I was not expecting too much from this cartridge.
Unfortunately any kind of published specifications on this cartridge are not easily found. My first reaction was to remove this cartridge from the TTUSB and replace it with one of my Shure M44-C Cartridges that I have used for many years. For the older and somewhat worn records I like to track at 4 to 5 grams as that is what they were always played on with a conical .7 mil Diamond stylus. The .5 to 2 gram limitations on many of todays cartridges just dont track well in a worn record groove and a higher rate of distortion in the playback is evident.
When I saw this cartridge and it's low price, I ordered one primarily to have it for the replacement stylus and also in hope that it would include some kind of electrical and mechanical specifications on the package, which it did.
For those of you who are also wondering what the specs are before you buy it, here is what was written on the back of the blister pak it comes in ( Mounting Hardware is also included ).

a Pin Out diagram is also shown and it states " Designed in the USA, Made In Japan
While setting up the TTUSB Numark Turntable, I maxed out the stylus pressure ( as measured on a calibrated Neuses Guage ) to 3.5 Grams. I tried some well worn 45's that just didn't make it on a 1.5 gram pressure stylus on one of my Ortofon Cartridges. These records did sound OK on a Shure M44-C and a Pickering V15ATE both tracking at just a little over 4 Grams. The sound from the Numark Groove Tool Budget Cartridge was compatible with the Shure M44-C and the Pickering V15ATE for playing older records " with Wear " . I was pleasantly surprised to say the least.
I also tried playing some of my high quality " Command Records " ( Remember those ? ) and I am still quite impressed.
I have now ordered a bunch of replacement stylii for this cartridge as I think I will just leave it in the Numark TTUSB.
Yes, the stylus " grip " does get somewhat close to the playing surface of the record as an earlier reviewer pointed out. If you are not playing severely warped records this should not be a problem, and remember I am tracking at the Maximum specified tracking weight. I am not using this in a " DJ " situation so back queing does not concern me.
I have not yet been able to find any published spec for the frequency response of this cartridge although it does put a smile on my face when playing many of my original 50 and 60 year old 45's as I transfer them to digital format.
I have had many Record Changers ( remember those ? ), Turntables, cartridges and stylii over the years made by well known manufacturers . Although I would never call myself an " Audio Purest " by any means, I know what I like to hear and I do hear that from this cartridge.
For the price of the cartridge and for replacement stylii I would consider at this price point a very worthwhile item if it will suit your requirements. I am quite surprised and very well pleased with its performance.

Expanded pitch adjustable features, braking adjustment settings, and long lasting led illuminator lights and increased anti-skating make this absolutely a spectacular analog machine/ dj instrument. Quality build is superb and built to outlast anything out there in the competitive market... The ONLY minor mistake not used in really completing the whole package is a lack of a key adjust control. Basically, with a key adjust you can speed up or slow down the beats or the music without vocalists sounding like chipmunks, or Barry White speaking in slow motion ! Key adjust just changes the speed of the music and vocals, not the pitch or tune...This is just a small bonus feature that would have been nice to have; Denon and another company name have already done this for their brand of DJ turntables...

Ordinarily, the "S" on an Ortofon stylus designates it as a spherical tip, while an "E" designates it as an elliptical tip. The "S" styli tend to be used for scratching since they lend themselves better to backwards play, but (apparently) elliptical tips can be used with success.

(More customer reviews)I have owned just about every needle available to djs. These are great right out of the box. The Qberts/Nightclubs/etc all need some wear in time. The problem IMO is that these tend to wear down quite fast. Also, a fun fact, its actually cheaper to buy an OM kit with 2 stylus's then it is to buy 2 replacement stylus
This is a great needle...i recommend over the qberts (too loud/too sensitive)

Numark CS-1 Carl Cox Signature Model Stylus Review

Carl Cox's design "hugs" the record so well that I haven't, as of yet, noticed any skipping, even while playing older records. (More customer reviews)I purchase two cartridges w/ stylus (Ortofon Concorde S) a couple weeks back, when I got them they were both blemished as if they had been used before and one of them outright didn't work. So I sent them back and only got one back in return, fortunately it was unblemished and actually worked nicely. After calling Amazon sent the second one, which came after a week since UPS lost the package. However, this one also didn't work, I tested it on a couple different turntables to make sure - it still didn't work. So I decided to send them back, Amazon claims it is the manufacturer's fault, regardless I will never buy dj equipment from Amazon again and I will definitely not buy Ortofon.
