(More customer reviews)During the past six weeks or so, I've received a total of 7 of these red & green laser star projectors from Amazon, shipped by 3 different vendors. I returned 4 of them and kept 3. Based on my experience, there are at least 4 DIFFERENT PROJECTOR TYPES being sold here, even though they all look identical on the outside and come in identical packages with identical instructions. The different projector types are as follows:
1) The BEST ones have a) BRIGHT lasers, nearly as bright as a hand-held laser pointer that I own; b) both green and red lasers that stay on CONTINUOUSLY; and c) they project a grid that is 16 LINES WIDE AND 16 LINES TALL, for both red and green points, making a total of 256 green laser points and 256 red laser points. (Since each of these points can be made to separate into smaller points, the actual total number is much higher.)
2) The SECOND BEST ones have a) BRIGHT lasers, b) both green and red lasers that stay on CONTINUOUSLY; and c) they project a grid that is ONLY 12 LINES WIDE AND 12 LINES TALL, for a total of 144 green laser points and 144 red laser points.
3) The THIRD BEST ones have a) BRIGHT lasers; b) red lasers that stay on continuously but GREEN LASERS THAT ONLY COME ON INTERMITTENTLY (30 seconds on and 30 seconds off); and c) they project a grid that is ONLY 12 LINES WIDE AND 12 LINES TALL.
4) Bringing up the rear, the WORST projectors are DIM, only about 1/5 as bright as the bright ones. There are big differences between these different machines, but they are all being sold on Amazon as if they were identical.
These machines can be a lot of fun, if you can get the best ones. I recommend getting two, since the brain can get used to the patterns projected by a single projector fairly quickly. The combination of two overlapping patterns produces a much more varied display.
